The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality CPR, use an AED effectively, and relieve choking. This course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.
Course Content Includes

High-quality adult, child, and infant CPR (1-rescuer and 2-rescuer)

Use of bag-mask device and rescue breathing
-
Use of an AED for all ages
-
Relief of choking in adults, children, and infants

Team dynamics and effective resuscitation teamwork

Recognition of the importance of early defibrillation and high-quality CPR
Course Format

Instructor-led, in-person training with practice-while-watching videos

Hands-on skills practice with instructor feedback

Skills testing and written exam required for completion

Approximately 3.5–4 hours (depending on class size and student proficiency)
Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course and receive the AHA BLS Provider eCard (valid for 2 years):

Actively participate in all course sessions

Demonstrate proficiency in CPR, AED use, bag-mask ventilation, and choking relief for adults, children, and infants

Pass the skills tests for adult/child CPR with AED and infant CPR
-
Achieve a passing score (minimum 84%) on the written exam
Prerequisites

None. This course is open to all healthcare providers, first responders, and individuals requiring BLS certification.

Students are expected to review the BLS Provider Manual before class.
Student Materials (Required)
